Dear VIDC Volunteer,
Here are some important suggestions for when you’re volunteering before and during the event.
Everyone must wear closed toe shoes.
Much of what we do will be outdoors. Please pack sunscreen and wear clothing appropriate for extended time outdoors.
Come a little early. Parking is on the north side of the VA campus. There will be signage, however, for those serving on Thursday, please note that it is a workday there. If you are serving before 5:00pm, please leave your vehicle with the free Valet (no tipping allowed) on the west side of the facility.
If you are part of the July 4 afternoon volunteers, please come 1/2 hour early so you can enjoy some of the incredible food we are providing. July 4 morning volunteers will have pastries and coffee provided. July 3 volunteers will have the same for breakfast and pizza for lunch. Please bring what you need if you have any special dietary requirements.
Please pack your patience, it may take time to get you placed and you may be moved from place to place as needed. Once you have been assigned a task please let one the VIDC staff know if you have leave or need a break
We cannot provide a secured area for storage of personal items. Please leave extra clothing and other items in your vehicle.
If you lose any items while volunteering, or find a misplaced item, our Lost & Found is at the Registration booth
Feel free to bring your children but realize that this is a very active site. We do have an awesome Children’s area with lots of fun activities, but are not providing childcare services.
The VA is very careful to protect the privacy of patients and staff. Do not wander around any of the campus buildings unless performing a volunteer duty.
Realize how much your service means to these Veteran’s and their families. They truly appreciate this event and your participation.
Thanks so much for all your help and Happy Independence Day!
